GBP Speculative Positions Improve as Bearish Bets Unwind
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has released its latest Commitments of Traders report, providing insight into the speculative positioning of non-commercial traders in the British pound futures market.
The data shows that net speculative positions for the GBP have improved to £-55.6K, up from £-71.3K in the previous reading. This represents a net change of +15.7K contracts and signals a reduction in bearish sentiment toward the UK currency.
A negative figure indicates that short positions outnumber long positions, meaning more traders are betting against the pound. The narrowing of this gap suggests that speculative traders are becoming less pessimistic about the GBP's prospects.
