GBP Surges Against USD Amid Weaker US Jobs Data

The British Pound rose against the US Dollar on Wednesday after a softer-than-expected ADP employment report weighed on the greenback. The ADP National Employment Report showed that private sector employment in the US increased by 152,000 jobs in May, below the market consensus of 175,000.

This softer reading raised concerns about the resilience of the US labor market and prompted investors to trim bets on further Federal Reserve rate hikes, causing the US Dollar Index to retreat from its recent highs. The resulting tailwind lifted the GBP/USD pair to session highs near 1.2750.

The Bank of England's continued hawkish stance is also supporting the Pound, as policymakers maintain a rhetoric of higher interest rates to combat persistent inflation in the UK. This expectation may widen the interest rate differential between the US and the UK, impacting the exchange rate.
