GBP/USD Bounces Back from NFP-Driven Volatility as Traders Await CPI and PPI Data
The British Pound (GBP) trimmed its losses against the US Dollar (USD) on Friday after a volatile session driven by strong US employment data. The GBP/USD pair fell to an intraday low of 1.3482 immediately following the release of the August Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP), but rebounded as the market digested the numbers.
The NFP report showed that US employers added 162,000 jobs in August, far exceeding the expected 56,000 and leading to a brief surge in the value of the USD. The Unemployment Rate held steady at 4.1%, while July's reading was revised from a decline of 23,000 to a gain of 21,000.
Despite the stronger-than-expected jobs data, traders appear hesitant to commit to a rate hike by the Federal Reserve (Fed) this month. Recent comments from Fed officials suggest that policymakers are prioritizing price stability over interest-rate increases, making next week's Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) reports crucial for the September decision.
