GBP/USD Edges Higher but Upside Potential Remains Limited
The British Pound (GBP) has recovered some ground against the US Dollar (USD), but its upside potential remains limited. The GBP/USD pair rose after a dismal showing on Friday, when it hit a one-week low.
Traders are now looking to this week's key US data releases for direction, including the Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) report due out on Friday. Recent developments in the Middle East crisis have also sparked concerns about global economic stability, which may support the safe-haven USD.
The British Pound received some support from UK Chancellor John Healey's emphasis on maintaining fiscal discipline ahead of the Autumn Budget on October 28. However, market expectations for a Bank of England (BoE) rate hike have been pushed back into 2027, while US Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Kevin Warsh's comments on Friday lifted bets for a September rate hike.
The technical analysis suggests that the GBP/USD pair is hovering between clustered Fibonacci supports and nearby moving average resistance, indicating a neutral near-term bias. The path of least resistance for the USD appears to be to the upside, warranting caution before placing bullish bets on the GBP/USD pair.
