GBP/USD Rises on Strait of Hormuz Deal Hopes and Weak US Dollar
The Pound US Dollar (GBP/USD) exchange rate rose on Wednesday as investors became more optimistic about a potential deal to ease tensions in the Middle East.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for oil exports, has been at the center of tensions between the US and Iran. Recent reports suggest that negotiations involving the US, Iran, and Oman are progressing well, which may lead to an agreement in the near future.
This improved market mood reduced demand for safe-haven currencies like the US Dollar (USD), causing it to weaken against the Pound (GBP). The GBP/USD exchange rate rose by approximately 0.2% from Wednesday's opening levels, trading at around $1.3478.
The US Dollar also faced headwinds due to a series of underwhelming economic releases. The latest ADP employment survey showed private payroll growth slowed to just 44,000 in July, while the ISM services PMI disappointed, indicating that activity in the dominant services sector lost momentum.
