GBP/USD Seesaws Amid US Jobs Data and Bailey Comments
The British Pound (GBP) momentarily recouped its losses against the US Dollar (USD) following the release of stronger-than-expected jobs data in the United States. The GBP/USD pair had dipped to an intraday low of 1.3482 after the US Nonfarm Payrolls report, but rebounded to trade around 1.3512 at the time of writing.
The Pound's initial weakness was due to the Dollar's firming up on the jobs data, which showed a stronger-than-expected employment rate. However, the pair's recovery suggests that investors are reassessing their expectations for interest rates in the UK.
LONDON TRADING SESSION UPDATE
In London trading, the Pound had eased from session highs just below 1.3550 and drifted back towards 1.3520, leaving the pair negative on the day. This move was influenced by comments from Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, who urged flexibility in monetary policy. Bailey's remarks damped expectations of a rate increase at September's meeting.
