GBP/USD Surges on Fed Decision: Is it a Refund or Warning Sign?
The Federal Reserve (Fed) decision to hold interest rates at 3.50% to 3.75% caught some market participants off guard, and the Pound Sterling responded accordingly.
With three voting members preferring an immediate quarter-point increase, investors saw this as a 'refund' rather than a warning sign. As a result, the GBP/USD spiked roughly 40 pips into the 1.3350 area within minutes, reaching its best level in two days.
This sudden move was likely due to futures pricing that carried better than a third of a hike into the meeting, which came out of the US Dollar on the headline.
