Geopolitical Tensions Spark Global Economic Concerns: Aditya Birla AMC CEO
Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC's Managing Director and CEO, A. Balasubramanian, has highlighted the impact of ongoing geopolitical conflicts on the global economy, particularly in the United States. He notes that rising US inflation and interest rates are making it increasingly challenging for the country to finance these tensions.
The prolonged nature of these conflicts is causing commodity price volatility, as seen in the recent fluctuations in crude oil prices due to diplomatic discussions involving Iran, Israel, and the US. This instability is unsustainable for any global economy in the long run.
In contrast, Balasubramanian remains optimistic about the Indian market, citing strong inflows into Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) accounts, which are projected to reach between $50 billion and $60 billion by September. This will help stabilize the Indian Rupee and strengthen the country's foreign exchange reserves.
The government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and anticipation of a new pay commission are also expected to act as domestic supports against global market turbulence. Balasubramanian recommends that investors maintain a strategic allocation of 5% to 10% in gold, viewing it as a necessary hedge against ongoing geopolitical stress and structural inflation.
