German Inflation Rises 0.2%, ECB on Track for Rate Cut
Germany's Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose 0.2% in August compared to the previous month, falling short of the 0.3% forecast. The data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) shows a slight slowdown in monthly price growth.
The annual rate of HICP inflation decreased from 2.6% in July to 2.0% in August, largely due to a base effect from energy prices and a moderation in food price inflation.
The European Central Bank (ECB) now sees a higher probability of a rate cut at the upcoming September meeting as inflation moves closer to its 2% target. However, core inflation remains elevated at 2.9% year-on-year, suggesting that underlying price pressures have not fully dissipated.
