Germany CPI Beats Forecasts, ECB Rate Hikes More Likely
Germany's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.8% month-on-month in July, surpassing market forecasts of 0.7%, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
The stronger-than-expected increase signals persistent inflationary pressures in Europe's largest economy, with implications for the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy trajectory.
Services and food prices were the main drivers of the July CPI figure, offsetting a slight decline in energy costs compared to June. Core inflation also edged higher, reflecting sticky underlying price pressures.
