Germany's Inflation Rate Spikes Amid Middle East Tensions and Soaring Energy Costs
Germany's inflation rate surged to 2.8% in July, driven by increasing energy costs linked to ongoing tensions in Iran. The EU-harmonised consumer price index rose from 2.4% in June to 2.8% in July.
The significant hike in energy expenses was the main contributor to the inflation increase, jumping from 3.4% to 8.3% month-on-month.
Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, declined marginally to 2.4%, but the European Central Bank maintained borrowing rates, hinting at potential rate hikes due to volatile energy costs.
