Ghana Cedi Surges Against Dollar Amid Improved Economic Conditions
The Ghanaian cedi has continued its upward trend against major currencies, including the US dollar. According to the Bank of Ghana's latest exchange rates, the dollar is selling at GH¢10.9855 on August 14, up from around GH¢11.74 a week earlier.
This improvement in the cedi's value has been driven by increased foreign exchange supply and inflows from the mining sector and the central bank.
Market expectations point to further gains for the cedi if current supply conditions persist, which could reduce the local currency cost of dollar-denominated transactions and provide relief for businesses reliant on imported goods and services.
