Ghanaian Cedi Continues Downward Trend Against Major Currencies

The Ghanaian Cedi has continued its downward trend against major currencies, including the US dollar, British pound, and Euro. On August 5, 2026, the average buying rate for the dollar was GHS11.62, a two-pesewa decline from the previous day's rate. The selling rate also remained unchanged at GHS12.14.

The Cedi fared no better on the Bank of Ghana interbank market, where it traded at GHS11.71 for buying and GHS11.73 for selling against the dollar. Meanwhile, the British pound was trading at GHS15.51 for buying and GHS16.36 for selling at forex bureaus.

In the money transfer space, two companies, LemFi and Taptap Send, were offering competitive rates of GHS11.73 each for remittances from the US or UK to Ghana. For digital subscription payments via Visa and Mastercard, the exchange rate stood at GHS12.60 and GHS12.61 respectively.
