Global Markets Bounce Amid Iran Tensions
Global markets saw some relief on Wednesday after three days of declines, with stock indexes mostly rising as investors watched for developments in the US-Iran conflict.
The Japanese yen jumped sharply against the US dollar, up 0.79% at 158.92 per dollar, after retracing about half of its gains made following a joint intervention by the US and Japan in July.
US Treasury yields eased from multi-year highs, while investors remained focused on Iran, where fears of renewed escalation gripped the Middle East after the US and Iran exchanged their biggest barrage since July.
Oil prices rose about 1% amid worries about further disruption to energy supplies, with Brent crude futures gaining 98 cents to settle at USD 95.63 a barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rising 79 cents to settle at USD 91.01.
