Global Markets Slide Amid Escalating Iran-US Tensions
Global stock markets declined on Thursday due to escalating tensions between Iran and the US. The S&P 500 fell by 0.58%, closing at 7,591.79. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 0.60% to 52,064.46, while the NASDAQ Composite lost 0.65% to end at 26,081.72.
The dollar strengthened across the board as investors sought safe-haven assets amid the escalating hostilities. The EUR-USD pair fell to 1.1612, with the euro down 0.18% against the dollar. The Australian dollar suffered the steepest losses, dropping by 0.83%.
Global markets were mostly lower on Thursday, with only India's S&P BSE SENSEX and Japan's Nikkei 225 bucking the trend. Canada's S&P/TSX Composite index was the weakest performer in North America, closing down 1.11%. The UK and European indices also declined, while Asian markets closed mostly lower.
