Global Stocks Decline Amid Bond Market Pressure and Iran Sanctions
Global stock markets declined on Monday as investors remained cautious due to persisting bond market pressure. The US is set to announce new sanctions against Iran, which has further weakened its economy. The rial dropped to a record low of 2.02 million to the US dollar on informal currency markets, adding to the country's economic woes.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average future fell 0.1%, while the S&P 500 future declined by 0.2%. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 dropped 0.7% to 65,528.09, and South Korea's Kospi lost 3.1% to 6,696.96.
Australia bucked the regional trend with its S&P/ASX 200 gaining 0.5% to 9,103.10. Investors will be closely watching the US personal consumption expenditures (PCE) report on Wednesday, which is the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation.
