Gold Bounces as Traders Eye Inflation Data Amid Bearish Market Conditions
Gold prices rebounded slightly on Friday after a 2% drop in the previous session, as traders waited for key US inflation data to provide fresh direction. The precious metal had been under pressure due to rising oil prices and growing expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September's policy meeting.
The bears were contained by significant Fibonacci support at $4319 (50% retracement of the upleg from $3942 to $4697), but pressure on this level remains. The current market conditions, with a high risk of war escalation and further increases in oil prices, continue to weigh on gold.
If the bears break through the $4319 pivot, it could complete a bearish failure swing pattern and signal a continuation of the downtrend, exposing targets at $4268 (daily cloud top) and $4230 (Fibonacci 61.8%).
