Gold Edges Higher on Weak US Dollar Ahead of Key Inflation Data
Gold prices rose slightly on Thursday, September 10, as the US dollar remained weak. The spot price of gold was up 0.3% at $4,412.84 per ounce, while US gold futures for December delivery fell 0.1% to $4,457.10.
Analysts said that the weaker US dollar made greenback-priced metals less expensive for holders of other currencies. 'For now, the geopolitical developments in the Persian Gulf are of secondary importance to gold,' Marex analyst Edward Meir said.
The upcoming release of US inflation data is expected to shape the Federal Reserve's interest rate path. The Fed has already signaled that it will hold its interest rate steady at 1.5% for the rest of 2026, defying market expectations for a series of hikes.
