Gold Holds Near $4,400 Ahead of US Inflation Data Release
Gold prices are holding near $4,400 as investors await US inflation data and potential changes to Federal Reserve interest rates. Spot gold rose 0.4% to $4,418.87 an ounce at 02:40 ET (06:40 GMT), while gold futures increased by 0.03% to $4,461.82 an ounce.
The US inflation data release could influence the Federal Reserve's next interest-rate decision, which is a major concern for gold traders. The weaker US dollar, currently at 98.74 on the US Dollar Index, is also supporting gold prices as it makes gold more attractive to investors.
However, higher US Treasury yields are limiting gold's gains, as they make gold less appealing compared to interest-paying assets. Oil prices have also climbed sharply, reaching $100 a barrel for Brent crude, adding to market concerns about inflation.
IG analyst Tony Sycamore noted that the weaker dollar helped gold despite higher bond yields, emphasizing the complex factors currently influencing gold prices.
