Gold Holds Steady Near $4,600 Amid Fed Rate-Hike Focus
Gold prices held steady near $4,600 an ounce on August 27 as investors weighed their bets ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's speech. The precious metal had previously risen above this level but retreated after a small gain in the previous session.
Bullion dropped by as much as 0.5%, erasing its earlier advance, despite having gained more than 13% in August, one of the biggest monthly gains on record. This surge was driven in part by the US Treasury's surprise intervention in the bond market, which revived interest in gold and boosted the so-called debasement trade.
While investors are focused on the Federal Reserve's rate-hike path, they still see value in gold as a safe-haven asset. The metal has shown resilience despite some fluctuations in price.
