Gold Mining Stocks Surge Amid Fed Rate Freeze
Gold mining companies have seen a surge in investor interest this month as the Federal Reserve's decision to hold interest rates steady has boosted sentiment. Analysts believe this rally may still have room to grow.
The VanEck Gold Miners ETF (GDX) broke out of a falling wedge pattern, indicating decreasing selling pressure and increasing buying activity. The ETF jumped from a low of 69.74 on July 17 to a high of 92.66 on August 12, with projected targets estimating a potential price of 110.50-111.00.
However, some cautionary signs are emerging as GDX stalled near the 93.46 mark, which is the 50% retracement level of its previous decline. Additionally, overbought conditions in the Relative Strength Index (RSI) may suggest a temporary pause in the rally. A drop below the 78.5/80 support area could challenge the bullish outlook.
