Gold Price Surges Above $4,400 Amid Dollar Debasement Fears
The gold price has recovered above $4,400 in US Dollars as investors increasingly prioritize protecting their wealth against potential dollar debasement. Analysts at SEB see this trend as part of a broader shift towards hard assets like gold and Bitcoin.
SEB analysts warn that the US Treasury's more interventionist policies could weaken confidence in the dollar, lifting inflation expectations and driving demand for real assets. The bank points to rising prices for gold, Bitcoin, and implied inflation as indicators of this trend.
The US ten-year breakeven inflation rate has risen to 2.37% on Wednesday, up from 2.35% late last week. However, SEB analysts caution against treating rising Treasury yields as a sign that investors are abandoning government debt, noting that bond pricing does not yet support this conclusion.
