Gold prices slid on Monday as investors locked in profits after reaching a seven-week high the previous session, awaiting US inflation data for clues on the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook.

The spot price of gold fell 0.5% to $4,322.28 per ounce, while US gold futures dipped 0.4% to $4,381.60.

Gold prices had surged after weaker-than-expected US jobs data on Friday, reaching their highest since June 17.
