Gold Prices Soar Above $4,600 Amid US Fiscal Uncertainty
Gold prices have surged above $4,600 as US Treasury intervention and renewed concerns over fiscal credibility strengthen the case for bullion. The rapid August rally may face volatility from upcoming inflation data and the Federal Reserve.
The gold price accelerated sharply during the second half of August, finishing Friday near $4,617 per ounce after reaching a high of $4,631.67. This represents a remarkable reversal from late July, when gold had fallen below $4,000.
China's reported acquisition of more than 40 tonnes of gold in June has drawn attention because it exceeds the amount officially reported by the People's Bank of China. The purchases highlight Beijing's strategic interest in strengthening its reserves and potentially reducing reliance on traditional reserve assets.
