Gold Prices Steady Amid US-Iran Talks Optimism

Gold prices held steady near $4,075 an ounce in early trading on July 28, following President Donald Trump's comments that the US and Iran were engaged in talks to end the war. This had raised concerns about inflation and higher interest rates.

The war between the two nations has been ongoing for five months, causing a significant drop in gold prices, which have fallen by more than 20% since then. Despite this, bullion has hovered near $4,000 an ounce since late June, thanks to dip-buying keeping it above the psychological threshold.

Traders are now positioning themselves for a potentially contentious rate decision by the Federal Reserve this week. A recent rise in energy costs due to renewed fighting in the Middle East clashes with a tamer-than-expected reading on US consumer prices in June, leading to an unusually high degree of uncertainty about a quarter-point interest rate increase.
