Gold Prices Steady as Markets Await US Inflation Data and Interest-Rate Clues
Gold prices held steady on Monday as investors awaited key US inflation data releases this week for clues on the Federal Reserve's interest-rate path.
The spot price of gold remained unchanged at $4,424.40 per ounce by 0025 GMT, while US gold futures for December delivery fell 0.1% to $4,471.60.
Last Friday's job growth data showed a sharp acceleration in August, with the unemployment rate holding steady at 4.1%. The figures suggest an improving labor market, which keeps an interest-rate hike this month on the table.
The CME Group's FedWatch tool shows traders currently see a 58% probability that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at its September 15-16 meeting.
