Gold Rally Remains Vulnerable Amid Oil Uncertainty
Gold prices have been on an upswing after several weeks of consolidation around the $4,000 level. While the metal has surged in recent days, its rally remains vulnerable to headwinds from oil uncertainty and a strengthening dollar.
The US economic data released this week was disappointing, with weaker retail sales and softer consumer sentiment. This has strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve may leave interest rates unchanged at its September meeting.
However, bond yields have remained elevated, posing a major risk to gold and other zero- and low-yielding assets. Oil prices have also rebounded after falling on Thursday, adding to the uncertainty surrounding global energy markets.
From a technical analysis perspective, gold now faces an important test in the $4,365-$4,455 resistance zone. A sustained break above this area would strengthen the case for a fresh uptrend, while failure to clear it could leave the broader consolidation argument intact.
