Gold Rises as US Dollar Slips Ahead of Inflation Data
Gold prices have been rising as the US dollar's value slips. This has made gold more affordable for other currency holders, driving up demand and causing spot gold to increase by 0.6% to $4,429.89 per ounce.
The US dollar index decreased by 0.4%, making greenback-priced metals cheaper in foreign markets. As a result, investors are buying gold in anticipation of upcoming inflation data that could influence the Federal Reserve's next policy move.
Gold remains 'locked in a battle between buyers and sellers,' according to Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone Group, with neither party showing enough conviction to drive a sustained directional move. This suggests that gold prices may continue to be volatile in the short term.
