Gold, Silver Prices Tied to US Dollar at Record Extremes
The relationship between gold and silver prices has become unusually sensitive to US dollar movements over the past month, reaching historical extremes. Gold's correlation with the US dollar (DXY) has fallen to -0.88, while silver's stands at -0.83. These readings sit around the 3rd percentile for gold and 4th percentile for silver relative to their respective histories.
The DXY is currently just above an important support zone, with a break in the dollar potentially leading to renewed upside across the precious metals complex. The Japanese yen's continued strength has also added pressure to the dollar, which is struggling beneath its 200-day moving average.
