Gold Soars as Middle East Tensions Ease, Breaks Above $4100
Gold prices surged on Monday as the easing of tensions in the Middle East provided a boost to the metal. The US and Iran's decision to pause hostilities opened up possibilities for diplomatic action, which eased inflation concerns and reduced expectations of Federal Reserve rate hikes in coming months.
The softer rhetoric led to a weakening of the US dollar, making gold more attractive and pushing its price higher. Gold prices advanced by around 1.5% in Asian trading as they broke above the key $4000 support zone and probed through the $4100 barrier.
While the near-term technical structure is fragile, the daily momentum indicators are improving, suggesting a slight bullish bias. However, gold's price needs to sustain gains above its 20-day moving average ($4072) to keep this trend intact.
The upper breakpoint of the $3950/$4200 range is exposed, and a firm break through $4200 could generate an initial reversal signal and form a base for further gains. Initial support lies at $4072 (20DMA), followed by $4052 (10DMA).
