Goldman vs BofA: Opposing Forecasts on Yen's Future Direction
The Japanese yen's future is uncertain as two major banks offer opposing forecasts. Goldman Sachs predicts a stronger yen, while Bank of America expects it to weaken further.
Goldman's USD/JPY forecast places the pair at 162 in three months and 149 by year-end, but the dollar currently trades around 154.61 yen. In contrast, BofA sees the yen falling to 145 by the end of 2027.
Goldman attributes the yen's potential recovery to Japanese rate hikes, which could outweigh US yields supporting a weaker yen. However, it notes that the US economy will likely limit the yen's rebound.
