Greens Senator Pocock Steps Down Amid Personal Health Concerns
Greens Senator Barbara Pocock has announced she will not re-contest her seat in the next election, citing personal reasons. Her partner has been battling brain cancer and despite a good prognosis, Pocock feels it's not right to continue running for office.
Pocock was elected as one of two Greens senators from South Australia in 2022, alongside Sarah Hanson-Young. She studied economics at university before working at the Reserve Bank of Australia and in academia.
As a spokesperson for housing, finance, and workplace relations, Pocock has been a vocal critic of consulting firms KPMG and PwC. She's also advocated for changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax.
