Haldane Sounds Alarm on UK Government's Economic Expertise Deficit
Andy Haldane, former chief economist of the Bank of England and head of the Levelling Up Taskforce, has expressed concern about a lack of economic expertise in government. Speaking on Sky News, he stated that 'there is now a deficit in expertise in economic matters' within the cabinet, among advisers, and across the civil service.
Haldane emphasized the importance of addressing this gap if the current government wants to achieve its goal of good growth in every postcode. He warned that without sufficient economic knowledge, policymakers are 'flying blind'.
