Helcim Rides Canadian Payments Wave with $53M Raise
Calgary-based payments processor Helcim has raised C$53 million in a growth equity round led by the Business Development Bank of Canada's growth venture unit, according to The Globe and Mail.
The financing values Helcim at C$250 million, up from C$97 million at its last raise in 2024.
Helmic is positioning itself as one of the last domestic options for Canadian merchants, following a series of sales by major banks to foreign companies. In August 2026, RBC and BMO agreed to sell processor Moneris Solutions to Francisco Partners for $2 billion; in 2025, TD sold its processing unit to Milwaukee-based Fiserv.
Helmic's CEO Nicolas Beique told The Globe that the sale of Moneris could compromise Canada's data sovereignty and infrastructure for moving money. He also said that the deal will drive 'a huge influx of business' as merchants react strongly to shrinking Canadian choices, accelerating Helmic's growth.
