Historic Manchester Building Refreshed for Modern Occupation
The historic Bank of England building at 82 King Street in Manchester's city centre has undergone a major refurbishment. The grade one-listed building, which dates back to the 1800s, has been refreshed by OBI on behalf of landlord Priory Manchester.
The refurbishment included bringing the entire fifth floor to Cat A standard, adding showers and a changing room to the basement, installing WCs and lift lobbies on each floor, and refurbishing the reception. The 6,100 sq ft fifth floor is now available for occupation, while the rest of the building remains occupied by tenants including Wella, Regus, and Federico Wine Bar.
The project required a delicate balance between preserving the building's heritage and creating a modern functional workspace. According to Dominic Horridge from OBI's building consultancy team, 'Working on a historic listed building like 82 King Street requires a careful balance between preserving its heritage and creating a modern, functional workspace.'
