Hochul Slams Trump's Tariff Threat Against Canada as 'Destructive' to American Economy
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has criticized President Trump's latest tariff threat against Canada. She claims it is another diversionary tactic by the president to deflect attention from more pressing issues. The tariffs, which would apply a 50% tax on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts, and steel, are expected to further strain the American economy.
Hochul made her comments at the ribbon cutting of the Future Farmers of America building at the New York State Fair. She expressed concern that the tariffs will increase prices for everyday Americans, including grocery items, dairy products, gasoline, and energy costs.
In a veiled reference to Trump's previous actions, Hochul suggested that the president is using the tariff threat as a way to distract from other controversies. 'This is doing nothing more than wreaking havoc on the American economy,' she said.
