Hong Kong Stocks Drop Amid Global Economic Concerns
Hong Kong stocks traded lower on Tuesday, September 15, as investors awaited key economic data from China and the US Federal Reserve's policy decision. The Hang Seng Index declined about 0.4%, or 85 points, to around 24,830. Higher oil prices have added to concerns about inflation and interest rates, causing investor caution.
The US 10-year Treasury yield briefly touched 5%, its highest level since October 2023. Technology stocks provided some support, preventing a sharper decline in the Hang Seng Index. The HK50 index was trading around 24,837, down 81 points or 0.32%.
Market sentiment remained cautious ahead of several important global economic developments. Investors were awaiting China's August data on areas including industrial production, retail sales and new-home prices. Concerns over inflation have resurfaced due to elevated oil prices.
