Hyundai Motor Group's US sales reached a record high in July, driven by surging demand for hybrids. The group sold a combined 165,284 vehicles in the US last month, up 5 percent from a year earlier.

The Hyundai Motor and Kia brands set individual sales records in July, with Hyundai's sales increasing 3.7 percent to 89,427 units and Kia's rising 6.7 percent to 75,857 units.

The Tucson was Hyundai's top-selling model, with sales jumping 20.2 percent to 19,714 units. The Santa Fe also saw a significant increase in sales, up 13,373 units. At Kia, SUVs led the growth, with Sportage sales rising 11.7 percent to 16,083 units and Telluride sales climbing 13.5 percent to 11,816.

However, electric vehicle (EV) sales declined sharply in July, plummeting 40.5 percent to 7,210 units due to the expiration of the $7,500 consumer tax credit under the US Inflation Reduction Act.
