IGA Seeks MOT Price Hike to £95 as Garage Costs Soar
The UK's MOT test price cap is under review by the Government after trade body The Independent Garage Association (IGA) proposed raising it from £54.85 to £95 - a 73% increase.
The IGA argues that garages are facing higher costs due to rising labour, rent, equipment, fuel, and energy prices, which have not been reflected in the current MOT fee of £54.85.
A Bank of England calculator suggests that £54.85 today would be equivalent to £87.54 in line with inflation since 2010.
The IGA will meet with the Department for Transport (DfT) on October 21 to discuss the proposed price increase, which has been met with caution by a DfT spokesperson who stated that there are no current plans to raise the MOT fee but it is under constant review.
