IHVV ETF: Hedging Currency Risk in Focus as Aussie Dollar Swings

Instruments
USD AUD

The iShares S&P 500 AUD Hedged ETF (ASX: IHVV) offers Australian investors exposure to the 500 largest US companies, but with a crucial difference from its popular unhedged sibling. The fund's underlying portfolio is hedged back to Australian dollars, making it a tool for managing currency risk rather than a different bet on US companies.

According to Kalkine, the key driver of interest in IHVV is currency, specifically the relative path of Australian and US interest rates. With the US Federal Reserve holding at 3.50-3.75% in mid-2026 and the RBA at 4.35% with a hold-or-hike bias, investors are watching the AUD/USD exchange rate for direction.

The fund charges a management fee of 0.10% per annum, slightly higher than the unhedged IVV due to the ongoing cost of maintaining the currency hedge. The underlying portfolio is dominated by the largest US technology and internet companies alongside major financials, healthcare and consumer names.
