India and Canada to Hold First Finance Ministers' Economic Dialogue
India and Canada are set to hold their first Finance Ministers' Economic and Financial Dialogue in Toronto on August 26 and 27. The meeting will be led by Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne, marking the beginning of a new era in economic cooperation between the two countries.
The dialogue is expected to focus on strengthening economic and financial ties, discussing shared priorities for promoting sustainable growth, and exchanging views on global economic developments. The meeting will also explore opportunities for deepening investment, trade, and building new partnerships across key sectors such as energy, agriculture, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.
Canada's Finance Department noted that India presents extraordinary opportunities, with its economy scaling in areas that define Canada's strengths. With a population of 1.4 billion, India's energy demand is increasing faster than anywhere else in the world.
The meeting comes as Canadian investment in India surpassed CA$ 110 billion in 2024, and both countries are embarking on parallel missions to build and transform their respective economies and diversify key supply chains.
