India-Japan Trade Mission Targets 10 Trillion Yen Investment in Tech Sectors
India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is leading a historic 200-member delegation to Japan, aiming to drive investment in cutting-edge sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and green energy. This mission supports the target of attracting 10 trillion yen in Japanese investment over the next decade.
The focus has shifted from traditional trade to high-technology growth areas, with the goal of strengthening the 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' between India and Japan. The delegation will engage with the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and regional industrial bodies to explore joint ventures in key sectors.
Japan remains a top-five source of foreign direct investment for India, with over 1,400 companies already present. However, the trade relationship faces scrutiny regarding its current structure, with a bilateral trade figure of approximately $27.5 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year.
