India has sought to deepen its investment partnership with Japan by meeting senior leaders of major Japanese financial and investment institutions in Tokyo. The Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, led the discussion on ways to strengthen long-term capital flows and expand Japanese participation in India's growth plans.

The meeting brought together representatives from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), Development Bank of Japan (DBJ), Mizuho, Morgan Stanley, Nomura, and Nippon Life. Discussions focused on India's economic outlook, emerging investment opportunities, and steps to facilitate greater Japanese institutional investment into India.

Goyal highlighted the resilience of the Indian economy, citing 7.7% growth last year despite global uncertainties. He emphasized that India is working towards becoming a $30 trillion economy by 2047, driven by the strength of its banking sector, robust capital adequacy, and expanding middle class.

The minister also outlined opportunities for Japanese investors in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, and digital infrastructure. Japan's institutions expressed their growing engagement with India and confidence in the country's long-term growth prospects.
