Indian Stocks Eye Tentative Bounce Amid Oil Price Worries
Indian stocks are poised to open on a slightly firmer note as foreign investors continue to pour in, but the market's optimism is tempered by concerns over rising oil prices and looming US inflation data.
The Nifty 50 index closed at 24,471.7 on Tuesday, despite slipping 0.5% due to renewed worries about crude oil costs. However, foreign portfolio investors remained net buyers of Indian shares for the ninth time in 10 days, injecting 2.59 billion rupees ($27.14 million) into the market.
The influx of foreign capital is a welcome sign for Indian markets, but it's not without its risks. Higher oil prices can squeeze corporate margins, boost inflation expectations, and put pressure on India's trade balance, potentially capping any rally in stocks.
US consumer and producer inflation data this week will be closely watched by traders, as cooler readings could ease concerns over rising Treasury yields and the dollar, making emerging markets more attractive to global investors. Conversely, hotter prints could revive expectations of higher interest rates, strengthen the dollar, and make cross-border flows more unpredictable.
