Indonesia's Central Bank Nominee Unveils Pro-Market Blueprint for Growth
Destry Damayanti, Indonesia's sole nominee to head Bank Indonesia (BI), has unveiled her pro-market blueprint to balance growth with rupiah defense. Speaking at a parliamentary confirmation hearing on August 26, 2026, Damayanti outlined her policy vision under the banner of 'Red and White Synergy for the Welfare of the Indonesian People'.
The central bank's statutory mandate has been expanded to include macroeconomic stability, real-sector job creation, and sustainable economic growth. To achieve this, Damayanti plans to overhaul foreign exchange transaction monitoring using digital supervisory technology (suptech) and cross-validate trade data with state resource vehicle Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI).
Damayanti emphasized that the fundamental exchange rate depends on economic growth ranges. She noted that under optimal baseline conditions, the fundamental value can reach Rp 16,500 ($1.04) per U.S. dollar, but real-time outcomes depend dynamically on shifting global developments.
