Australian inflation dropped to 3.8% in June 2026, easing pressure on mortgage holders and reducing the likelihood of an August rate hike by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3.8% annually, down from 4.0% in May, according to figures published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Transport costs decreased significantly due to lower global fuel prices, but housing and services inflation remain stubbornly high.

Economist Chris Richardson noted that while a catastrophic rate hike has been avoided, the fight against inflation is far from over.
