Inflation Report Looms Large Over Global Markets

Global markets are bracing for a potentially pivotal inflation report from the US, which could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve's September meeting. Despite recent turmoil in hotspots around the world, including Iran, North Korea, and Taiwan, market attention is focused on the upcoming consumer price index (CPI) data.

The CPI report will not capture the most recent rise in energy costs but is still expected to shape expectations for the Fed's September meeting. A Reuters poll suggests that US consumer prices rose 0.1% last month after falling 0.4% in June, with annual inflation slowing to 3.4% from 3.5% a month earlier.

The data comes on the heels of a disappointing US payrolls report last Friday, which highlighted the delicate balance that Fed officials must strike between supporting the economy and keeping inflation in check.
