Iranian Rial Crashes Amid US Pressure and Soaring Inflation
The Iranian rial has hit a record low against the US dollar and euro due to intensifying US pressure and rising inflation. On September 8, the currency fell to 2.4 million rials per dollar and 2.7 million rials per euro.
The decline is linked to recent military claims between Iran and the US, including the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The US also announced new sanctions against Iran's aviation sector, targeting 36 entities and remaining Iranian airlines.
The sanctions, combined with inflation rates reaching 89% in August, have put significant pressure on the rial. Food and beverages saw a particularly sharp price increase, rising by 127.5% over the year.
