Iraqi Dinar Exchange Rates Surge 18% Amid Liquidity Demand
The parallel market exchange rates for the US dollar against the Iraqi Dinar have risen across major domestic trading centers in Iraq, reaching 154,500 IQD per $100. This rate is significantly higher than the Central Bank of Iraq's official fixed exchange rate of 131,000 IQD per $100.
The uptick in rates indicates sustained liquidity demand for physical cash dollars in parallel market trading and cash-based merchant supply chains. While documentary trade and official corporate transactions clear through the Central Bank's electronic wire platform at the pegged official rate, cash exchange windows across Baghdad, Erbil, and Basra saw the market premium widen to nearly 18% over the official baseline.
The daily exchange rates for the US dollar against the Iraqi Dinar vary by city. In Baghdad, the selling price is 154,500 IQD, while in Erbil and Basra, it is also 154,500 IQD.
