Iraqi Dinar Exchange Rates Surge in Basra Amid Regional Fluctuations
The Iraqi Dinar (IQD) has seen significant fluctuations in its exchange rate against the US dollar across different trading hubs in Iraq. On September 6, 2026, the parallel market rates diverged, with Basra crossing the 155,000 IQD threshold.
Basra's retail selling rate rose to 155,250 IQD per $100 USD, marking the highest rate among major regional bourses. In contrast, Baghdad held steady at 154,750 IQD per $100 USD, while Erbil saw a modest upward movement to 154,500 IQD per $100 USD.
The exchange rates in all three cities are still trading at a substantial premium above the Central Bank of Iraq's (CBI) official benchmark peg of 131,000 IQD per $100 (1,310 IQD per $1 USD).
